A new stage adaptation of The Full Monty will premiere at Sheffield Theatres in early 2013.
The play has been adapted by Simon Beaufoy, who wrote the film’s screenplay. It marks his first work for the theatre, although his screenwriting credits include Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Beaufoy will incorporate songs from the film The Full Monty into the play.
He said: “Without Sheffield, there would be no Full Monty. It’s been a long road- via Hollywood- but finally the characters are coming back home to the place it all started. Or to put it another way, we are all genuinely chuffed to bits.”
Sheffield Theatres’ artistic director Daniel Evans said that since he took up the post he has been “eager to bring this funny and heartwarming story back to the city”.
The Full Monty will run in the Lyceum Theatre from February 1 to February 23.
