Cinco de Mayo (fifth of May) is a Mexican holiday that honors the Mexican victory over the French army at The Battle of Puebla in 1862.
For the most part, Cinco de Mayo is more of a regional holiday in Mexico, celebrated mostly in the state of Puebla. There is some limited recognition of the holiday throughout the rest of the country.
Celebrating Cinco de Mayo has become increasingly popular along the U.S.-Mexico border and in other parts of the U.S.

Kids ran at large, jumped in a bouncy house and played noisy games under the park's stately trees. Adults stood in knots or sat at picnic tables chatting energetically in English and Spanish. Organizers checked sound equipment and lined up pans of food for a free Mexican dinner.
