Job Summary: The Dietetic Technician 1 (DT) responsibilities include collection and review of nutrition screening information for patient referral to a dietitian, completing data collection to identify changes in nutritional status during admission, providing patients on a specialized diet program the opportunity to select menu items and assuring that nutritional restrictions and food preferences have been met, completing nutrient intake analysis reports, and providing patients and family members with information on general nutrition. Participates in training dietetic students and staff. Attends clinical meetings, in-services, and area-specific meetings. Performs other duties as needed.
Associate's Degree in Dietetics/Foods or Nutrition required. Bachelor's Degree in Foods or Nutrition preferred. Minimum of one year of clinical nutrition experience preferred. Hours and days vary according to assignment. Location may vary according to assignment. Weekend call or weekend duty may be a part of regular assignment. Participates in weekend/holiday rotation. Available to work overtime if situation necessitates Knowledge of nutritional food values, meal planning and therapeutic menu processes. Handling/gripping, speed movements, fine dexterity, writing and speaking skills necessary for the job, able to operate calculator, computer, typewriter, copy machines, and telephone. Must be able to communicate effectively with others, collaborating and accepting direction, able to work calmly and courteously when under pressure, display a positive and professional demeanor to patients, family members, and co-workers, able to be consistent in enforcing Medical Center Policies. Ability to speak and write in English fluently. Ability to speak Spanish desirable. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, make judgments, make and follow through on plans, reasoning and problem solving skills, mathematical skills, organize and prioritize workload, attention to detail, memory.
